Federal agencies frequently provide grant funding directly to a state as an allocation or to an organization to fund a specific project. There were many of those situations this past week. For example, the Department of Homeland Security announced a bevy of funding opportunities, many of which will go directly to state governments.

Mine Safety and Health Administration

Details: The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), is making up to $400,000 available in grant funds for education and training programs to help identify, avoid, and prevent unsafe working conditions in and around mines. Grants will be at least $50,000 each, and the competition is opened to states, territories, Indian-controlled organizations, nonprofits and private entities.
Department of Housing and Urban Development
Grant Title: Family Self-Sufficiency Program -- New Applicants

Details: The Family Self-Sufficiency program supports the Department's strategic goal of utilizing housing as a platform for improving quality of life by helping HUD-assisted renters increase their economic security and self-sufficiency. The program promotes the development of local strategies to coordinate the use of assistance under the HCV and PH programs with public and private resources to enable participating families to increase earned income and financial literacy, reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance, and make progress toward economic independence and self-sufficiency.
National Science Foundation
Grant Title: Centers for Chemical Innovation

Details: The Centers for Chemical Innovation (CCI) Program supports research centers focused on major, long-term fundamental chemical research challenges.CCIs that address these challenges will produce transformative research, lead to innovation, and attract broad scientific and public interest.
