Back in November, I spoke at a national conference for home repair nonprofits—an event filled with passionate leaders navigating the same storm we all are: tightening budgets, a competitive funding landscape, and growing uncertainty.
During my presentation, I made a passing comment that turned out to be a lightning bolt.
I said something along the lines of, “Nonprofits should be worried about the future of federal funding and diversify their funding sources. That means leaning into corporate, foundation, and settlement fund opportunities.”
That sparked a question from the audience:
“Do you think AI has a role in that shift?”
I hadn’t planned to talk about AI. But the moment that question came, I paused—and then answered with a resounding yes. I shared a few ways AI tools can support research, structure writing, and streamline proposal development. I also warned that there are some pitfalls to avoid. The audience response was overwhelming. Several attendees met up with me afterward to ask for more.
Fast forward to today, and I’ve been invited back by the national organization that hosted that event. I’ll be delivering a full training for their members in July—focused entirely on how to strengthen grant strategies with private funders and ethically leverage AI.
That moment—and the invitation that followed—is what inspired me to rethink everything about my course, my consulting priorities, and this new ebook.
Introducing: Nonprofit Survival 2025: RI + AI = Grant Success
Let’s be clear: this is not just another grant writing resource. It’s a response to the seismic shifts shaking our sector.
Federal funding delays and clawbacks aren’t theoretical—they’re real, and they’re happening now. We’ve heard from dozens of organizations this year whose budgets are unraveling mid-cycle because multi-year grants weren’t renewed, competitions haven’t opened, or funds were suddenly frozen. We’ve even seen clawbacks of previously awarded grants.
If your organization is reliant on federal dollars, you’re already feeling the squeeze.
That’s why we developed a new framework we call:
RI + AI = Grant Success
RI = Real Intelligence
Not guesswork. Not chasing every opportunity. RI is about smart strategy, strong infrastructure, and funder alignment.
AI = Artificial Intelligence
Used ethically, AI can accelerate your writing process, help you structure proposals, and free up time to think and lead.
Combined, these two forces allow you to write better grants, faster—and do so with clarity and confidence.
