Catalyzing Success for Home Repair Nonprofits

Posted by on

We are super stoked to join the Coalition for Home Repair in Detroit on November 13-15 for their annual ReFrame Conference. We thought this would be a great time to talk about our relationship with this amazing coalition and how it has evolved.

In the nonprofit world, securing funding is often a daunting hurdle. However, with strategic partnerships and expert grant writing, achieving substantial federal investments becomes more attainable. The collaboration between KFA and the Coalition for Home Repair, which has flourished over the past decade into a story of significant achievements and learning, is a shining example of success. Let’s explore how this partnership took the Coalition’s funding strategy to the next level and set a benchmark for other nonprofits striving for growth.

The Genesis of a Fruitful Collaboration

It all started with a simple phone call. In 2014, Becca Davis, the founder of the ReFrame Conference and the Coalition for Home Repair, was on the lookout for conference speakers. Her call to the founder of KFA marked the beginning of an impactful partnership. This interaction was not just about filling a speaker slot; it was the start of a journey toward groundbreaking funding success.

Evolving Relationships and Building Trust

Over the years, KFA's commitment to building trust and nurturing relationships with nonprofit organizations like the Coalition for Home Repair has been the cornerstone of our strategy. The initial engagement at the ReFrame conference led to more in-depth involvement, highlighting KFA’s expertise in addressing the specific needs of home repair nonprofits. By focusing on the preservation of safe, healthy, and affordable housing, KFA aligned perfectly with the Coalition’s mission, setting the stage for a successful funding strategy.

Achieving Grant Writing Success

One of the most notable milestones in this partnership was securing a one million dollar federal grant. This achievement was not just about the monetary gain but also about the transfer of knowledge and skills. KFA didn’t just write a grant; they equipped the Coalition with the necessary skills to continue applying for and securing grants independently. This empowerment strategy ensures sustainability and amplifies the Coalition’s ability to secure funding multiple times over in the future.

Expanding Impact Through Strategic Focus

The collaboration’s success is also a story of strategic focus and scalability. After years of working with individual members of the Coalition for Home Repair, 2021 marked a significant year as KFA helped the Coalition secure its first-ever collective one-million-dollar grant from HUD’s VHRMP (Veteran Housing Repair and Modification Pilot Program). Taking the work with home repair nonprofits to scale, KFA demonstrated how targeted expert training and consultancy significantly enhance nonprofits' abilities to secure critical funding.

From Training Workshops to National Funding

KFA’s approach involves building out core competencies through grant writing workshops and training, working one-on-one with local and regional nonprofits, and meeting national organizations' funding needs. This comprehensive strategy has not only helped in securing immediate funding but has also laid a foundation for long-term growth in funding competencies. By leveraging our deep understanding of the full range of funding opportunities available to the field, KFA has enabled transformative results for the Coalition.

A Model for Nonprofit Funding Success

The success story of the Coalition for Home Repair serves as an inspiring model for other nonprofits. The strategic partnership with KFA highlights the importance of tailored consultancy, expert training, and sustainable skill development in the nonprofit sector. For nonprofits looking to enhance their funding strategies, the key takeaway is clear: building strong partnerships with expert grant writers can not only lead to immediate financial success but also empower organizations for future funding achievements.

For nonprofits inspired by this story, connecting with a seasoned grant writing firm like KFA could be the first step towards securing your organization’s financial future. Let expert consultants help you unlock the potential of federal grants and beyond, ensuring your mission not only survives but thrives.
